Today’s birth ended up on a c-section. I’ve met with the family who was being induced since 5 days ago, coming in and out of the hospital for medication and checks.
After 3 cervidil, 2 prostaglandin gel and 4 Misoprostrol doses, she was finally admitted in a room and able to get oxytocin to start the contractions and hopefully progress.
I’ve got to the hospital at 6pm on a Friday, at 12am she got an epidural, at 2am she was still at 3.5cm dialated. Midwife gave her more time with oxy since both baby and mom were happy and suggested a peanut ball to open up more space for baby to descend and hopefully dilate more!
3 hours later she was checked and no change has been made. her cervix was getting swollen from the contractions but somehow was not changing. And so they’ve contacted the obgyn on call for a second opinion and they’ve decided to increase oxytocin for one more hour to see if there was going to be any other change, but unfortunately, baby decided to come via c-section. Mom and baby are both fine and healthy!
